Bravely into the Kinko's (now FedEx Office, yay for corporate mergers and branding) I approached the desk. After I waited politely in line, though, I'm not a total barbarian. A young and interesting seeming clerk took my order, looking bored half to death or perhaps depressed, and advised me to come back in an hour and a half. I don't think he hardly even looked at me, and I reflected on his dejected nature. It makes me a little sad, especially when the person I am working with seems so cool, that I might not be able to build any rapport with them. This story has a happy ending though.
When I returned to collect my scans, an older clerk who acted like the manager gathered my materials and my shiny new disk and began processing my order. He asked me if I was putting together a digital portfolio or website, to which I shamelessly plugged dA. The original clerk came dashing over with a smile on his face. "You play d20, don't you!" He said accusingly. To which I immediately blushed. Yes, I am a nerd. Yes, there are lots of nerdy elf and fantasy pictures in my sketch book. Yes, I had been found out. It was enough to make him actually want to talk to me, though. Hurrah for the friendly power of NERD. He knew exactly what dA was, so I shamelessly plugged my site to him. And in retrospect, as I write this, I realize it's very possible he might see this whole entry. Hah! How embarrassing. Not really, Kinko's (now FedEx Office) Clerk Guy, if you are reading this, SAY HI!
By the way, I wish I had actually played some pencil and paper role playing games. I just never knew anyone interesting enough to do it with!
And the end result of my adventure? I now have 26 pieces that I have to clean up to post! Hurrah!
